The gala diner of the 30th International Symposium on Money Banking and Finance will take place on Thursday 27 June in the “salle des Pas Perdus“, the public lobby of the courthouse of Poitiers.
This place, an outstanding example of medieval civil architecture, is part of the Palace of the Counts of Poitou-dukes of Aquitaine.
Since the Merovingian period, several buildings have successively occupied the site. At the beginning of the eleventh century, a new palace was built by the Counts of Poitou and Dukes of Aquitaine and, shortly before 1200, Eleanor of Aquitaine began to set up a great ceremonial hall that was probably the largest (50m x 17m) at that time in Europe. Further work was undertaken at the end of the fourteenth century at the initiative of Jean 1st Duke of Berry: the hall was equipped with three monumental carved fireplaces. A balustrade was added in the nineteenth century. The imposing chestnut wood roofing frame dates from the same time.
